THE HISTORY

Art and Colors is the artistic legacy of the French-Algerian artist Manuel M. Tafat, who spent the last 30 years of his life in Copenhagen. The place is his life's work – a unique artistic universe where colors, mosaics and shapes merge to tell stories from his eventful life.
Born in Algeria, Manuel M. Tafat was captivated by the world of art at an early age. His artistic journey took him through Europe, where he worked with decoration, painting and mosaics. Along the way, he was inspired by expressionist masters such as Miró and Matisse, as well as the Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí – an inspiration that shaped his work with a unique sense of color, structure and organic forms.
In 1992 he began work on decorating Kunst og Farver as part of Kulturby 96. With great creativity he created a space where art and architecture merge into a living whole. Over the course of eight years he shaped the soul of the space, and in 2000 the place was completed – a vibrant work of art, where every corner bears the mark of his passion and desire to tell stories.
Manuel's artistic vision was also recognized outside of art circles. He received special permission from the royal house to include portraits of the royal family in his decoration, which testifies to the respect his work enjoyed.
Over the years, Kunst og Farver has been featured in both Danish and international media such as Berlingske, Politiken, Information, TV5 Monde, Arte, Mærsk Air Fly as well as in Swedish, German and Irish newspapers. Many have found inspiration in his works, and today we continue his artistic spirit by communicating his visions through our events and arrangements.
When you enter Kunst og Farver, you step into a living work of art, where every surface tells a story – from the colorful mosaics covering the walls and ceilings, to the artistic details that testify to Manuel's lifelong dedication to his art.
Today, Kunst og Farver is not just an artistic monument, but a living meeting place where art, history and community unite.
The premises can be booked for parties, cultural events and special arrangements.
We look forward to welcoming you to an experience you will never forget.
